The dreams of six young South African cyclists from Khayelitsha came true during July 2007 when they lined up with Tour de France race leaders Michael Rasmussen (yellow jersey) and Linus Gerdemann (white jersey) for a stage start.

The six riders from the Life Cycling Academy (LCA) also participated in a ceremonial sign-in ceremony and were introduced as special guests of the 2007 Tour de France.

The LCA delegation spent their final day in the Alps river rafting and summer skiing before they departed for Paris on July 20 to return to Cape Town on July 22.

Team CSC mentorship programme for LCA

Their association with Team CSC – the number one pro-cycling team in the world – is set to continue beyond the Tour de France with the announcement that Team CSC will institute an ongoing mentorship programme with the LCA.

Team CSC will align its riders, staff and managers with peers at the LCA to further develop the programme and its members, as well as continue to elevate the profile of LCA and the Velokhaya programme.
